986. James Bond

The Selecter being one of one of a rash of party strong 2-Tone ska revival bands to hit the UK scene in the late 1970s. James Bond being a killer cover of the famous movie theme – sort of.  Steal the riff and run with it is more like it.

1058. all through the night

Not the only Lou Reed record about doing speed, hanging out all night, talking and whatever. Not even the best one. But All Through The Night does go somewhere unique. Lou could be an asshole. There seems to be consensus on that. But we put up with him because every now and then he’d nail something lucid and true about basic humanity, the struggle they call life, and why it’s worth the trouble.

1105. Cortez the Killer

Mr. Neil Young and his horse friends at the very peak of their shambolic grandeur.  We credit and/or blame the Bolivian marching power that was all the rage at the time if you were a certain class of rock star or movie director (or the kind of person that hung with them) way back when in that cultural depression between the death of the Elvis and the Sex Pistols and whatever the hell happened next. Some have argued nothing — the world ended and it’s all been a feedback loop every since.
