The Final Countdown* is Randophonic’s longest, most random and (if we’re doing it right) relevant countdown yet – the end of result of a long process that finally evolved into something halfway tangible in early 2018. The 1297 Greatest Records of All Time right now right here, if that makes sense. And even if it doesn’t, we’re doing it anyway for as long as it takes, and it will take a while.

The Collectors came from Chilliwack (the town) and would eventually become Chilliwack (the band). But first they had some heavy psychedelic work to do. Listen to side A of their debut album and you hear a band doing a nice job of pulling off a Mamas + Papas vibe. But put on Side B and things get way more serious with an epic eruption of non-stop quiet-LOUD-quiet-LOUD musings and rantings on love’s many colours, some of them quite disturbing indeed.

The Solid Time of Change is Randophonic’s latest project, an overlong yet incomplete history of the so-called Prog Rock era – 661 records from 1965 through 1979, presented in countdown form, with which we hope to convey some sense of what was indeed a strange and ambitious time.

Chilliwack being a band straight outa Chilliwack, BC, which also happened to be the name of not just their debut album, but also its sprawling double vinyl 1971 follow up, the second half of which spaces out in all manner of strange ways, the first half of which is not afraid to rock, with Eat being the sort of nugget that would still sound strong in pretty much any garage, the world over.
