451. the man in the long black coat

An atypical Dylan track, given its comparative lack of words, the man holding back some, letting the atmosphere speak (c/o Daniel Lanois’ masterful production). So in the end, it’s like a troubled dream that never resolves, just leaves you with questions and shadows and a palpable sense of dread.

reSEARCH-08 – The Whole Day

Installment #8 of what we’re calling the Research Series aired May-5-2018 on CiTR.FM.101.9

The eighth of a planned forty-nine movies, each forty-nine minutes long, featuring no particular artist, working no particular theme, pursuing no particular agenda beyond boldly going … who knows? Or as Werner Von Braun once put it, “Research is what I’m doing when I don’t know what I’m doing.” And we definitely have no idea where all this will take us.

007. The Final Countdown*

Installment #7 of The Final Countdown aired Saturday-April-28-2018 (c/o CiTR.FM.101.9).

Tracks available on this Youtube playlist (somewhat incomplete).

The Final Countdown* is Randophonic’s longest, most random and (if we’re doing it right) relevant countdown yet – the end of result of a long and convoluted process that finally evolved into something halfway tangible in early 2018. The 1297 Greatest Records of All Time right now right here, if that makes sense. And even if it doesn’t, we’re doing it anyway for as long as it takes, and it will take a while.

496. Isis

Isis is one of the songs that forever ensnared me in the mystique of the guy known as Bob Dylan, starting with radio late at night in my teen years, floating strangely past as I slipped into dreams, doing its bit to inform them. And like those dreams, I still couldn’t tell you what it’s about. A journey, I guess, but to where? Maybe that’s the point. It’s about infinity, eternity, the stories found within stories found within stories, snakes eating their tales, a goddess called Isis … and the falling out of love. The live version from the Rolling Thunder era is pretty damned strong, but I prefer the more restrained original, found on Desire. It just seems to go further.” (Philip Random)

001. The Final Countdown*

Installment #1 of The Final Countdown aired Saturday-March-10-2018 (c/o CiTR.FM.101.9).

Tracks available on this Youtube playlist  (not entirely complete or accurate).

The Final Countdown* shall be our longest, most random and (if we’re doing it right) relevant countdown yet. Which is rather a long of way saying, we’re not one hundred percent sure yet what it’s all about – just the end of result of a long and convoluted process that finally evolved into something halfway tangible this past February. Which is itself rather hard to explain, so it’s probably best to just to listen to the radio show one week at a time (most weeks anyway) for as long as it takes, and it will take a while.
