Which it does, So Far being an album of strange and extreme moods and sidetracks (some might call it noise) with It’s A Rainy Day Sunshine Girl either a #1 pop hit in another, cooler, far weirder and better universe (where Faust really were The German Beatles) , or just a long brash walk along a certain razor’s edge – where genius actually touches stupidity, but it never falls in, even when the saxophone finally arrives past the six minute point, out of tune, of course.” (Philip Random)

The Final Countdown* is our longest, most random and (if we’re doing it right) relevant countdown yet. Which is rather a long of way saying, we’re not one hundred percent sure yet what it’s all about – just the end of result of a long and convoluted process that finally evolved into something halfway tangible back in early February. The 1297 Greatest Records of All Time (right now right here), if that makes sense. And even if it doesn’t, we’re doing it anyway for as long as it takes, and it will take a while.

Ryuichi Sakamoto started out inspired by Kraftwerk, and by 1988 would have an Academy Award in his pocket for his soundtrack work. Somewhere in between, he found himself messing around with such cool and cutting edge western musical friends as Adrian Belew (the new guy at King Crimson), and Robin Scott (the guy who sang that Pop Muzik song). The album was called Left-Handed Dream and it’s definitely one of those lost gems.
Dali’s Car (the project) may have looked brilliant on paper. Take ex-Bauhaus lead singer Peter Murphy, put him in a room with Mick Karn, instrumental genius from recently disbanded Japan – see what happens. What happened was an album called The Waking Hour which didn’t quite add up, not for forty odd minutes. But Dali’s Car (the song ) — that was memorably odd, and nutritious.
